Sunflower
Status
Watercolor |

Van Gogh's sunflowers have always been an inspiration
to me. The large yellow flowers with contrasting dark centers
are stunning. This was one of the earlier subjects that I was
inspired to paint. I worked on "Sunflower Status" for
almost 2 years before I felt it was finished successfully. Flowers
are my favorite subject to paint because of their seasonal nature
and their need to be captured in the moment for full beauty and
freshness. With Hawaii's abundance of different varieties of
flowers, I like to search out the more unusual and exotic as
subject matter. I feel that sunflowers as painted by Van Gogh
have been elevated to a certain status which was my inspiration
for its title.
