Waikane Stream
Watercolor

Waikane is a ahupua'a (division of land) on the windward coast of Oahu. There were vast lo'i (wetland taro) cultivations there due to the abundance of water supplied by the Koolau Mountains. Taro is the staple food in the Hawaiian culture. The large heart shaped leaves are of the taro plant . This original was an oil on canvas done with the a palatte knife. I enjoyed doing this painting because of the ability to create interesting textures using the palatte knife. The outcome of this painting was restful but with a nice energy to it.
